Days 1-2Depart USA/Arrive S. AfricaArrive in to Johannesburg, South Africa, and make connecting flight to East London.
Day 3ChinstaMeet & Greet at East London airport. 45 minutes transfer to Chintsa on the Wild Coast. Welcome arrival and orientation. Get to know your group, staff, understand South Africa, projects' overview & methodology, vision and purpose. Lunch. Afternoon-informative cultural walk, project site visits & explanation of social complexities of the region. Introduction to the social project objectives and unerstanding of task objectives. Introduction to isiXhosa (local language). Evening at leisure and overnight at Chinsta. (L,D)
Days 4-8Social ProjectsProjects Available: 1) Explore & Learn - provide exposure and opportunity to the youth sector of disadvantaged communities. Groups will facilitate themed workshops that will uplift over 10 communities. Themes consist of: Environment (bush and/or marine/estuary), Creativity (arts & crafts), Rhythm (music & dance), Health Living (nutrition & sports), Education. 2) Orphanage-Support two local facilities that were designed as 'safe homes' for ~50 vulnerable children. Tasks for 2011 include: building, expanding, and renovating housing facilities (sleeping, eating, and living areas); educational support (tutor, educational games); health & nutrition management.3) Sport Center Development-perimeter fencing, club house & infrastructure development, netball court development, implementation of a Junior Sport's Program.4) Community Food Security-design & build a roofed cover over the seating area; water security to maintain existing rain water harvesting initiatives; garden development for fencing for food production and micro business opportunities for local economic development.In addition to social projects, highlights include cultural overnight at Xhosa village, sand dune sundowners, beach volleyball, ultimate frisbee, and swim. Optional: surf lessons, beach horse rides, mountain bike rides. (B,L,D)
Day 9SafariDepart Chintsa to visit world renowned Addo Elephant Park. AFternoon Game Drive through SA's most elephant populated reserve and home to the Big Five. Inkwenkwezi Private Game Reserve, home to the Big 5 with the experience to visit the Elephant sanctuary, where you will learn close up about these majestic animals. Afterwards, drive to Coffee Bay on the Wild Coast. (B,L,D)
Day 10SafariRevisit the reserve and enjoy the African bush in the morning. Then depart Addo for TsitsKama on the Garden Route. Enjoy the serene and tranquil environment of the area, or opt to go on an extra caopy tour or bungee jump
Day 11ExploreDepart early morning for a beautiful drive to Gaansbaai. After lunch enjoy the town or opt for shark cage diving or whale watching.
Day 12StellenboschEnjoy the Stellenbosch area, with more than 200 wine and grape producers. We will visit a handful of vineyards and learn more about the art of wine production, and sample the locally grown goods! Option to golf at Ernie Els course is available.(B,L,D)
Day 13Cape PointDiscover where the two oceans meet and explore the splendor of the Cape Peninsula. Drive along the shore to Hout Bay. Enjoy a cruise to Duiker Island to experience thousands of Cape Fur Seals in their natural habitat. After the educational cruise, head along the scenic Chapman's Peak drive to Simon's Town and Boulders Beach. Visit the nesting colony of rare Jackass Penguins. Head to the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve to bike along the coast to our relaxing picnic lunch on the beach. After lunch, we hike to the top lighthouse at Cape Point and then to the Cape of Good Hope. (B,L)
Day 14Cape TownA full day to visit both Table Mountain (hiking up-weather permitting), and an afternoon visit to Robben Island. (B,L)
Day 15Shopping, Leisure & PackingVisit the V&A Waterfront for the markets and shops of Cape Town (tons of restaurants and cafes for the non-shoppers) before you head to the airport for your return flight. (B)
